Privacy

Recording Humanity is a public archive of voices. This page explains what we collect when you share a story or send feedback, what becomes public, and what stays private.

What you share when you record a story

  • Your recording, in the voice setting you chose: your original voice or a disguised one.
  • The line you wrote, its category, the recording's length and your country.
  • The name to show with your story. This can be a nickname or your real name.
  • Optionally, your real name and email address, so we can contact you about your story. You can leave these blank.
  • Your confirmations when publishing: that you understand the story is public, that you understand you can only delete it until you leave the page after publishing (or later, with an account), and whether you gave the optional permission to adapt it into short-form video.

What is public, and what is private

Public to anyone: the recording, your line and its category, country, length, the name you chose to show, and the date it was shared.

Private: your real name and email (if you gave them), the video-permission choice, the deletion acknowledgement, and anything you send as feedback. These are not shown on the site.

Even when you use a disguised voice or a nickname, your voice, your words or the details you mention may still make you recognizable. Only share what you are comfortable having heard by anyone.

How we use it

  • To publish your story in the archive and play it for listeners.
  • If you gave the optional permission, to adapt it into short-form video and share it on our channels.
  • To contact you about your story, if you gave an email, or to reply to feedback.
  • To keep the site working, secure and free of abuse.

We don't sell personal information and we don't show advertising.

Where it is stored

Recordings and story details are stored with a hosted database and file-storage provider (Supabase) on our behalf. Recordings are served from public links so that anyone can listen. Our hosting and storage providers may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and operation.

Cookies and tracking

We don't currently use advertising or analytics cookies or third-party trackers. If that changes, we will update this page.

Removing a story

Accounts aren't open yet. A story shared as a guest can be deleted by its author only from the page shown right after publishing, until that page is reloaded or closed. Deleting it removes the recording and its details from our database and storage. Once accounts are available, people who share with one will be able to edit or remove their stories.

If a recording contains private information about you or someone else, or otherwise shouldn't be public, tell us through the feedback form and we will review it. Removing a story here does not remove copies that have already been shared or saved elsewhere.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. To make a request, use the feedback form, and tell us which story you mean. Because guest stories aren't linked to an account, we may ask for details that only the person who recorded it would know.

Changes to this page

We may update this page as the site grows, for example when accounts launch.
